From export file to readable archive

ProjectVault transforms flat export files into an organised viewer without sending the archive to a remote application server.

    Export

    Export the required project data from your project-management platform as CSV or JSON. For large organisations, exporting one department or Space at a time is often more reliable.

    Select

    Open ProjectVault and choose one or more CSV or JSON files, or a ZIP containing those formats. ProjectVault can combine files selected during the same import.

    Browse

    ProjectVault reconstructs available Spaces, Folders, Lists, tasks, statuses, people, comments, and custom fields into a searchable read-only archive.

    Return

    Imported archives appear in Archive library. Open an earlier archive at any time from the same browser profile, unless its browser storage has been cleared.

Your export file is parsed in your browser and stored in local IndexedDB. No step in this process sends archive content to a DevHexLab or ProjectVault server.

Your previous imports remain easy to find

Every completed import creates an entry in Archive library. Users can open an earlier archive, return to the library, or create another archive without replacing the previous one.

Archives are local to the browser and installation where they were imported. A web version, Chrome extension, and Edge extension each use separate local storage. Archives do not automatically synchronise between browsers or devices.

Private by architecture, not just by promise

ProjectVault processes selected export files inside the browser. Imported archive content is stored in the browser's IndexedDB database and is not sent to Baisil, DevHexLab, or a ProjectVault server.

ProjectVault does not:

  • upload imported archive content to DevHexLab
  • sell, rent, or share archive content
  • use archive content for advertising
  • include analytics or tracking SDKs
  • read browsing history
  • inspect websites the user visits
  • access files the user has not explicitly selected
  • modify the user's original export

ProjectVault does:

  • process explicitly selected CSV, JSON, and ZIP files locally
  • save imported archives in the current browser profile
  • open an attachment or task link only after the user selects it
  • retain an archive until the user deletes it or browser storage is cleared

Supported input formats

Supported input formats and how ProjectVault handles each one

CSVMaps recognised task headers and preserves unknown columns as custom fields.
JSONAccepts a top-level task array or an object containing a `tasks` array.
ZIPSearches the package for CSV and JSON entries. Other files are currently ignored.

The initial importer supports common ClickUp task-export columns. Support for additional project-management export formats is planned.

Clear expectations

  • ProjectVault is a read-only viewer, not a project-management replacement.
  • It can display only information present in the selected export.
  • A standard task CSV does not contain every Doc, Whiteboard, Dashboard, Automation, permission, activity event, or original attachment file.
  • Attachment URLs may expire or require an authorised account.
  • Browser storage can be removed when site data is cleared, the browser profile is removed, or the extension is uninstalled.
  • Users must retain their original export as the authoritative backup.
  • Very large enterprise imports still require planned streaming and SQLite/WASM improvements.
  • Archives do not currently synchronise across installations, browsers, or devices.

Install from a browser store

  1. Install ProjectVault from the Chrome Web Store or Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
  2. Pin ProjectVault to the browser toolbar.
  3. Select the ProjectVault icon to open the viewer in a full tab.
  4. Select Open an export.
  5. Choose the required CSV, JSON, or ZIP files.
  6. Enter an archive name and select Build archive.

Run the open-source version

ProjectVault is created by Baisil Geevarghese and published by DevHexLab. Its source is available for inspection, contribution, and self-hosting under AGPL-3.0-or-later.

Frequently asked questions

Does ProjectVault upload my export?
No. The current application processes explicitly selected files on your device and stores imported archives in the current browser profile. It does not send archive content to DevHexLab or a ProjectVault server.
Does the extension read my browser history or websites?
No. ProjectVault 2.5.0 requests no extension permissions, host permissions, content-script access, or browsing-history access.
Where can I see files I imported previously?
Open Archive library from the bottom-left of the ProjectVault sidebar. Each completed import appears as an archive card. Selecting multiple files during one import produces one combined archive.
Will my archives appear on another computer?
No. ProjectVault does not currently synchronise archives. They remain in the browser profile and extension installation where they were imported.
What happens if I uninstall the extension?
Uninstalling the extension can delete its locally stored archives. Keep the original export in approved storage so it can be imported again.
Is ProjectVault a complete backup?
No. ProjectVault is a viewer for exported information. It cannot preserve content absent from the export, and browser storage must not be treated as the only copy.
Does it work with ClickUp exports?
The initial importer recognises common ClickUp task-export columns. Export contents vary by plan, permissions, selected locations, and export method, so not every ClickUp feature can be reconstructed from a CSV.
Is ProjectVault affiliated with ClickUp?
No. ProjectVault is independent software and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by ClickUp.
Is ProjectVault free?
Yes. ProjectVault is free and open source under AGPL-3.0-or-later.
